The news that Queensland Governor Quentin Bryce will be Australia's next governor-general was greeted with delight at Bowral's Bradman Museum.
Bradman Museum executive director Rina Hore said she was "ecstatic" when she learned that her former Women's Cricket Australia colleague and friend was heading for Yarralumla.
Ms Bryce was president of Women's Cricket Australia from 1998 to 2003, with Ms Hore as her vice-president.
The two worked together on the integration of Women's Cricket Australia and the Australian Cricket Board to form Cricket Australia.
Ms Hore said as well as being delighted that her friend would now be just down the road in Canberra, she also believed that Ms Bryce would be a governor-general for all Australians.
"It is very well deserved," she said. "She'll bring a real compassion to the role."
Ms Hore said emails had been flying between excited Cricket Australia colleagues and friends since the appointment was announced.
