Horse arena fight goes to court

THE owners of Belle Cheval at Wildes Meadow, Michael and Dellarose Baevski, will take their plans for an enclosed equestrian arena at Myra Vale Road to the Land and Environment Court.

Wingecarribee Shire Council had deferred a decision on an application to enclose the 2772 square metre equestrian arena so councillors and neighbours could inspect the site and ask questions.

But neighbours were told last week that the Baevskis had refused to allow the on-site inspection.

Instead, residents have invited councillors and Member for Kiama Matt Brown to attend a long-distance inspection this week at a property overlooking the arena.

About 20 Wildes Meadow residents met on Sunday to discuss concerns about the arena enclosure, which would include a heated tack room, veterinarian’s room and saddling and grooming rooms.

Although Mr and Mrs Baevski have stated that the arena is for private use only, neighbours are asking why a private arena needs a judges box and a total of 130 metres of seating in two tiers.
