Paul Munro three days, three awards

06 Nov, 2009 09:25 AM
YOUNG businessman Paul Munro has the world at his feet after collecting a swag of awards in the past week.

At just 23 years of age, Mr Munro and his one-year-old business were recognised with three awards last weekend.

Vision Design and Print Studio was acknowledged with the award for Excellence in a Small Business at the Southern Highlands Business Awards and the Philanthropic Small Business accolade from the Southern Highlands Foundation last weekend.

On Saturday night, Mr Munro was also named the Candidate’s Choice at the Telstra Illawarra Best Catch event in Wollongong.

Vision was also honoured as the Outstanding New Business in the South Coast/Illawarra Local Business Awards about two months ago.

Mr Munro said he could hardly believe he had won so many awards in quick succession.

“Its surreal, but I am also very proud of what I have achieved. . I could not have done it without the support and encouragement of my wonderful staff,” he said.

“I’m not in business for recognition or acknowledgement but when you get it, you really do get encouragement and inspiration.”

Mr Munro is also a keen charity worker, having participated in house-building projects for AIDS-orphaned children in Africa.

He currently volunteers as a Young Achievement Australia mentor for high school students and donates business time to non-profit organisations, schools and churches.

“I am very keen about providing opportunities to others that can make a difference,” he said.

“That can be through donations, encouragement and support or just being there for someone and helping them see their situation in a new light.”

Mr Munro said it was important to inspire other young people to participate in the community.

“Unless our generation steps up to the plate and lives outside the box we so often confine ourselves to, there will be no cure for cancer, there will be no swimming at the beach knowing you are safe, no support for teenagers suffering from depression,” he said.

Mr Munro and his business have been nominated in the New Business and Young Businessperson of the Year categories for the Illawarra Business Chamber Awards next weekend
