THREE Bowral police officers charged with the alleged assault of a 36-year-old man outside the Royal Hotel in March have met with Goulburn MP Pru Goward.
Ms Goward has agreed to help them locate anyone who may have witnessed the events that led to the serious allegations.
“While I am unable to make specific comment on this situation, it would help flesh out the evening’s events if anyone who witnessed police officers make an arrest on the evening of Saturday, March 22, in the vicinity of the Royal Hotel at around midnight could come forward and make a statement to police,” she said.
Ms Goward said the man arrested by police was charged and subsequently fined for failing to move on when directed to by police and for using offensive language.
“It’s important that police have all the information that’s available and it’s up to members of the public who may have been present on that evening to come forward,” Ms Goward said.
“This is a very difficult situation and while I am not making a judgement we must not forget that police officers do a difficult job in extremely stressful circumstances.”
One officer has been suspended on full pay and two have been placed on restricted duties.
