Pru Goward's campaign for re-election starts

28 Aug, 2009 12:20 PM
STATE Opposition leader Barry O’Farrell will launch Pru Goward’s campaign for re-election in the seat of Goulburn at a dinner at Centennial Vineyards Restaurant in Bowral on Saturday.

The Master of Ceremonies, Sydney Morning Herald journliast Annabel Crabb promises to add some political spice to the proceedings.

‘It is my absolute pleasure to welcome the next NSW Premier to the Goulburn electorate,” Ms Goward said.

“The theme for my re-election will be centred on giving Goulburn a say in government. With the privilege of being the local member while in government, I am sure we can all look forward to many improvements in those areas where Goulburn has suffered badly under the disastrous Labor administrations.

“I can specifically refer to transport, aged and health care and help for the disabled as areas where the Labor administration has absolutely deserted this electorate.

“Of course there are numerous other areas where it will be to the absolute benefit of the people in the Goulburn electorate to have a strong voice in government..”

Ms Goward said Mr O’Farrell would make an outstanding Premier.

“He will have some very steep hills to climb as the Labor Party has left a legacy of a State in absolute ruin.

“But he is up to the task, and has a fine team around him who are itching to take the reins.”

I must say Pru Goward is really into promoting herself (she appears at the opening of an envelope). It must cost a fortune for her to be everywhere.

The interesting thing here for us out-of-staters is that Annabel Crabb will be MC. I wonder what she's up to? I am curious as to her political affiliations. I remember a few mumblings before the last election about her being a bit too enthusiastic about the Libs and she does have a thing about the "Ruddbot" as she calls him. Then there's the long essay about Malcolm Turnbull where she certainly portrayed him sympathetically. I wonder if she's a Lib. I hope so. As an ex-Liberal voter (very ex I have to admit) I despair about the current Lib party. It's certainly not Menzies' party anymore. Someone like Crabb would restore my faith in it (at least a bit). It would be nice to see someone with intelligence and rationality in the party. In the past two decades it has turned into a doctrinaire party where ideological purity matters more than intelligence and ability. Someone to keep an eye on.
