Transition body grants shire official recognition

01 Dec, 2008 02:45 PM
WINGECARRIBEE has been recognised as the 112th community to join the world-wide Transition Towns movement.

Wingecarribee is one of 11 Australian towns to join the movement, working to address the twin challenges of climate change and dwindling fossil fuels reserves by creating self-reliant communities.

CANWin spokeswoman Sandra Menteith said attaining official Transition Town status would allow Transition Shire Wingecarribee to receive support, guidance, materials, and training and to network with 120 similar groups world-wide.

Leading UK Transition Town trainers Naresh Giangrande and Sophy Banks will lead a two-day NSW Training for Transition workshop at Burradoo in February, which will be hosted by Transition Shire Wingecarribee.
