Walking to beat cancer

6/10/2008 8:10:00 AM
COUSINS Paul Batfay and Geoff Davidson may be tiring in the legs after seven days of non-stop walking, but their resolve remains firm as ever.

The pair from Sydney and Canberra were in the Southern Highlands for three days last week as part of the NAB Walk Against Cancer fundraiser, which concluded at ANZ Stadium before the NRL grand final yesterday.

The walk was sponsored by the National Australia Bank to raise funds for the Cancer Council of NSW for further research in a cure for various cancers. But the inspiration for Paul and Geoff is personal.

“We lost our grandmother back in 1992 to cancer, and my other nan has it at the moment, and so does my dad’s best friend,” Paul said.

“We felt it was something we could do as a possible fundraiser in the fight against cancer.”
