Aquifer on ice

When Save Water Alliance chairman Denis Wilson heard that the State Government would shelve construction of the controversial Kangaloon aquifer, he thought the news was too good to be true.

Unfortunately, he was right.

Water Minister Nathan Reese has announced this week that, with the desalination plant under construction and rainfall easing the drought, then the Kangaloon groundwater was not needed to top up Sydney’s water supply - for now.

“It was an emergency measure and the emergency is over,” Mr Reese said.
