Silent Message

26/05/2008 2:42:00 PM
More than 160 people united in the call for cycling safety awareness during the Ride of Silence at Bowral yesterday.

Even opposing politicians rallied to pay tribute to cyclists who had been injured or killed in road cycling accidents.

Federal Liberal MP for Macarthur Pat Farmer and the NSW Labor MP for Macquarie Fields Andrew McDonald donned their cycling helmets and showed a common bond in the local ride.

The politicians said they were united in their love for cycling and the need for safer cycling conditions in NSW.

Mr McDonald said he hoped to speak in Parliament later in the year to lobby for better conditions and greater awareness of road cycling safety.

Mr Farmer left his home at 4am to join in the Bowral Ride of Silence because “there are some things you’ve just go to do.’’
