 Twelve shave for Maeve

Twelve shave for Maeve

21/07/2008 1:53:00 PM
A DOZEN brave Highlanders will have their winter locks chopped off in Corbett Plaza on Saturday, August 9, in a bid to raise money for the Children’s Ward at Bowral Hospital and the family of sick toddler Maeve Wilson.

One-year-old Maeve is being treated for leaukemia at Randwick Hospital, disrupting the Wilson’s ability to run their Pablo & Rusty’s cafe business outside the BDCU rooms on Bong Bong Street.

Upon hearing about the Wilson’s predicament, Highlands Christian Church member Michael Stokes decided he wanted to help and set about organising the Shave 4 Maeve.

“The Wilsons are family friends and they have been going through a very tough time,” he said.

“They’re not getting an income at the moment and the costs of going back and forth to Sydney are mounting up. Everything has stopped for them, so I wanted to help them any way they can.”

“The people who have offered to help with Shave 4 Maeve have put their hands up without much prompting at all.

“Some people weren’t interested, but most people have seen it as a great cause.

“The fact that money will go towards developing the Children’s Ward at Bowral Hospital is something that will benefit every family in the Shire.

“Maeve has twice come home from Randwick only to return to Sydney within a few days for more treatment.

“It would be great for families to be able to stay in the Highlands while they go through tough times like this.”
