LAST Saturday, the Southern Cross Contractor first grade Tigers extended their winning run with another resounding but uninspiring victory over Wollondilly at Artie Smith Oval.
Despite being unable to muster a full compliment of players, the Knights still took the field and to their credit were able to at least put the Tigers under a bit of pressure and achieve what some sides have previously been unable to do – and that is score.
Whilst the Tigers were fortunate in that they got to have a game of footy (unlike Kiama), it is not the sort of situation that anyone enjoys with a number of players losing focus and wandering off the field as the game wore on.
Hopefully things will improve for Wollondilly, as they clearly have a number of very talented players and a handful of hardworking individuals who deserve much better.
I’m not going to discuss the game any further, other than to acknowledge the effort of those players from Wollondilly who made the journey and at least had a go.
Well done boys, it’s not often that you notice or applaud the opposition.
Understandably, all of Bomaderry’s players went well, even if the odds were stacked in their favour.
Hopefully we will see a marked improvement in front of goal this weekend, particularly against a side like Kiama, who are always tough to beat on their home turf.
Reserve grade: In what can only be described as a game of two halves, the Tigers managed to gain something out of what at one stage, appeared likely to be a repeat of our first round thrashing by the University of Wollongong boys.
Hopefully we will start to get a few of our players back over the coming weeks, although that said, you can’t deny the efforts of the young blokes who stepped up from the under 17s on the weekend.
This weekend we travel to Bonaira Oval to take on Kiama in both grades. Despite a first round forfeit, Kiama’s reserve grade side has been travelling pretty well and their first grade is always hard to beat at home, so we should be in for a fairly tough day at the office.
Promises to be a good day of footy and well worth the trip. Reserves will be departing the clubrooms at 10.30am, so if you need a lift be there early, otherwise we will see you at Kiama.
Match day awards will be presented at the Bridge Hotel on Saturday night, so make sure you get back there and support the club.
In other news, last week’s Trivia Night went off pretty well with a reasonable crowd in attendance, despite a lacklustre day of AFL.
Congratulations to Sarge and his winning team, and a special thanks to Dave Milne for organising and running the Trivia Night; also a big thanks to Julieanne for preparing yet another fine spread.
Finally, don’t forget the Whooa Cup on July 26.
This is always a huge night, and certainly one that you can’t afford to miss.
