THE Highlands under-12s have a shot at taking out the Southern Zone junior title for the first time in as long as any one can remember.

The boys take on South Coast in the final at Chater Oval this Sunday after they thrashed Crookwell by 99-runs in the semi-final at Lackey Park on Sunday.

Crookwell won the toss and sent Highlands into bat but soon came to rue this decision.

Openers Luther Canute and Tom Mooney put on 23-run partnership before Mooney was caught and bowled on seven. Skipper Jack Preddey and Canute took the score to 61 before Canute was caught out on 20 in the 22nd over.

Alex Debs and Preddey advanced the score to 102 with a 41-run stand before the skipper was caught for 38.

Tim Coenen and Debs continued to pile on the runs as the Highlands finished on 3-150.

In reply, Crookwell were all out for 51 in the 35th over. The Highlands best bowlers were Luke Slatter (4-13), Coenen (2-4, including five maidens), Jack Bennett (2-6), Debs (1-7) and Oliver Disher (1-6).
