After a season in second grade, Sir Donald’s former club makes a...Dignified return

COMPETITION heavyweights Robertson-Burrawang were met by a steely Bowral United, but rain ruined what was shaping up to be a classic match.

Last season’s grand finalists Robertson-Burrawang were punished on the synthetic pitch at Stephens Park, as Bowral’s batsmen cruised to 7-202 off their allocated overs.

With no movement on the flat deck and little swing out of the four-piece ball, Robertson’s bowlers were bullied to all parts of the small ground.

But stand-in captain Aaron de Jager said his team was confident of chasing the total, but rain ended play only two overs into the Spuddies innings.

Bowral batsmen Steve Edwards [pictured] took to Robertson’s bowlers, with former Bowral spinner Dean Roxburgh picked out for special punishment.

Despite the washout result, Bowral showed they would be competitive this season, capping a remarkable turnaround from last year’s second grade wooden spoon team.

Bowral meet Moss Vale in round two while Robertson play Wingello.
