FIRST grade newcomers Bowral and battlers Wingello scored drought-breaking wins in round four of the Highlands District Cricket association one-day competition on Saturday.
Bowral knocked off defending champions Tully Park, who were unbeaten through the first three rounds, while Wingello knocked off Hill Top at Taylor Avenue.
While Wingello’s win was hard fought, Bowral smashed Tully Park. Bowling first, Bowral rolled Tully for only 91 in 23 overs.
Tully, playing a man down, were restricted by Bowral’s opening bowlers Alex Preddey and Brett McAulay (pictured) who ripped through Tully’s batting line up.
Preddey finished with 3-23 off eight overs while McAulay took 2-29 off nine.
Scott Moran, making a guest appearance in the top grade, took two wickets, while captain Duncan Macpherson picked up a run out.
Bowral had no trouble chasing the total, cruising to 2-92 in the 19th over.
Opener Matt Norrie carried his bat to end unbeaten on 39 while Steve Edwards was not out on 37.
Captain Macpherson said he was proud of his team’s effort.
“We were all pretty happy to get a win up,” Macpherson said.
“I shouldn’t say it was easy, but it was a very good, much more polished Bowral performance this week.”
Bowral were easily beaten by Moss Vale and Coolavin/Workers over the past two weeks and had a rain-affected draw against Robertson in round one.
With Wingello and Hill Top in the coming weeks, Macpherson is hopeful the win will open the floodgates for his young side.
