BOWRAL United suffered a massive loss against Coolavin/Workers on Saturday, as Goulburn’s best batsmen teed off against the inexperience Bowral attack.
Making the most of beautiful batting conditions and a tiny boundary on one side of Bradman Oval, Coolavin’s Adam Squires and Ben Staples formed for a partnership of more than 150 runs to thwart Bowral’s chances of winning the match.
Bowral quick Alex Preddey picked up the early wicket of Derrick Carroll before Squires and Staples teamed up to bat Bowral out of the game.
Squires was eventually out leg-before to J Keys for 91, while Pete Roughton bowled Staples for 90.
Workers finished their innings with a mammoth 6-283, the highest score of the Highlands District Cricket Association season so far.
Keys finished the best of the Bowral bowlers picking up 3-40, while Preddey and Roughton took the other wickets.
Bowral’s chances of a miraculous run chase were cut down as openers Matt Norrie and Luke Hammond were out cheaply.
First drop, captain Duncan Macpherson steadied the ship with a hard-fought 48, but it was never going to be enough to chase down 283.
Roughton [13] was the only other batsman to make double figures as United were all out for 103 in the 29th over.
