POOR batting and some tight bowling from Moss Vale’s four-pringed pace attack saw Bowral rolled for only 59 at Lackey Park on Saturday.
Bowral United captain Duncan Macpherson was left scratching his head after his team, which scored over 200 last week, capitulated.
Macpherson said the wicket may have had some bearing on their performance but said they should have done much better.
“All the players have played on turf before, but this was the first time all season,” Macpherson said.
“Our match last week was on synthetic as were all the lead up matches, so that and just generally bad batting cost us.”
Matt Norrie [14], Alex Andelkovic [11] and Will Norrie [10] were the only Bowral batsmen to reach double figures.
Moss Vale needed only four bowlers to finish off Bowral, with openers Scott McKie [3-26] and Troy Brown [2-12] leading the way.
They were well supported by Murray Burgoyne [3-13] and Jack Webb [2-6] who finished Bowral off.
Moss Vale passed Bowral’s total four wickets down in the 21st over.
The maroons’ young opener Jordan Grey carried his bat to be unbeaten on 21 at the end of play.
Moss Vale captain Dave Edmends said he hoped Grey would be a long-term opening batsmen for his team.
“He has put his hand up and if he keeps going like he did yesterday then I’d say he will be at the top of the order,” Edmends said.
“The pitch wasn’t too bad, we bowled very well and capitalised on some poor batting.”
