Rain dampens Wingello's Tigers’ charge

08 Feb, 2010 05:18 PM
NOT a ball was bowled in Highlands District Cricket across the weekend, with all matches washed out.

Saturday’s wash out cost Wingello a potential top-four berth and protected Goulburn’s two teams, Tully Park and Coolavin/Workers.

With only two rounds left to play, Wingello were in the box seat against Bowral having rolled United for only 147 on day one and being 0-75 in reply.

An outright win would have lifted Wingello as high as second on the ladder, pending other results.

But as it stands, the Tigers now have to beat Moss Vale at Lackey Park this week and Tully Park at Chater Oval in the final round to make the playoffs.

Moss Vale had the bye on the weekend and thus were unaffected by the washout.

Like Wingello, Robertson were in a very strong position in their match against Hill Top.

Robertson had Hill Top on the ropes at 4-49 chasing 329 for victory.

But unlike Wingello, Robertson have already secured a finals berth and look certain to take the minor premiership.

The Spuddies were also set to play the one-day decider yesterday, but it was postponed.

The match will now be played this Sunday at Chater Oval.

Robertson have a good record at Chater Oval this season with two first-innings wins and an outright from their three matches.
