LAST Year’s grand finalists Robertson-Burrawang showed they are still a title contender with a 6-0 drubbing of Bundanoon.
After mixed results in the first five weeks of the competition, Robertson striker Matt Fernandez ran riot bagging a hat-trick.
Adam Bartlett scored a brace and Nathan Macgraw got the sixth from the penalty spot.
Robertson coach Damien Plain said it wasn’t his team’s best game of the year but one where they had taken most of their chances.
“Wehave found it hard to play as a team this year,” Plain said.
“Last year that was our strength.
“But we passed the ball around pretty well [against Bundanoon] and it was good to have most of our team on the park at the one time.”
Bundanoon struggled without goalkeeper Phil Sharp who was sidelined with broken ribs sustained in a match against Moss Vale a fortnight ago.
Jason Southcott stood between the goals for Bundanoon, but coach Bryan Jackson said it was not an ideal situation.
“We don’t have a second grade side who we can just get a goalkeeper from,” he said.
“As a result we had blokes playing out of position and we struggled.
“It wasn’t a disaster and Southcott did quite well but it re-shuffled our team around a bit.”
Jackson said centre-midfielder Luke Rundle was the team’s best.
The game was played without an official referee, but both teams kept a lid on their tempers and the stand-in referee maintained control of the game.
Jackson said Robertson were definietly a top-four side and on par with the Bushrangers.
“We haven’t played Exeter yet, but Patris are probably the best we’ve come up against,” he said.
“Yerrinbool and Robertson are not too far behind Patris.”
