Semis out of the question as fringe teams deadlocked

NOTHING could separate the Hill Top Kookaburras or Yerrinbool/Bargo Bushrangers when they clashed in their round 15 encounter at Boronia Park last Saturday afternoon.

Both sides needed a win to have any real chance of making the finals as they were 11 points shy of the top four.

The first half was a rather lacklustre affair with possession being given up easily by both sides.

Yerrinbool could not get the ball out of their own half after the break, as Hill Top had a stacked back line which created an abundance of possession due to the bushrangers constant clearing kicks.

The Kookaburra’s seemed to be a different side in the second half and they could have won the game with ease if they had capitalised on the ample opportunities that were presented to them.

The Bushrangers were given the luxury of having an extra player in the last quarter of the game when Hill Top where reduced to ten due to a nasty ankle injury.

Hill Top players Laura Fredricks and Jessica Kelly had outstanding games for the Kookaburras, providing a lot of quality ball into the forward line.

The Bushrangers should take a lot away from the draw as they were under intense pressure all game and still managed to pull through and walk away with one point.

Kookaburra’s coach Mark Bourke said he was happy with his team’s effort.

“The girls played some good footy as a team, but it was unfortunate that we missed some of our opportunities to win the game,” he said.

The top four has almost been decided as Bundanoon A, Robertson-Burrawang and Moss Vale A are certainties to make the playoffs.

A mathematical anomaly is the only thing that could keep Bundanoon B from sealing the fourth spot.
