Footy overdose

2/05/2008 11:20:33 AM
Highlands’ league fans will be recovering from a severe overdose of Group 6 action on Monday morning with seven senior clashes tasking place around the Wingecarribee shire.

The biggest clash will be Moss Vale’s Mittagong RSL first grade round three match against the Oakdale Workers at Community Oval on Sunday.

In the DNC Cup, Bowral Bunnies have their best shot at notching up a maiden win against Appin at Loseby Park on Saturday, while the Mittagong Lions host Mount Annan/Currans Hill at Mittagong Sportsground on Sunday.

The Dragons will back to full strength when they host the undefeated Workers with Michael King and Brett Clarke back from injury and five-eighth Rhys Lenarduzzi returned from representative duties.

Injury clouds still hang over Dan Drewe and John Creswell and captain-coach Lee Trasler said the pair will given until the last minute to prove their fitness.

Moss Vale were disjointed in their wet weather win over the Rams in round one but, with Lenarduzzi back in the halves and King’s aggression added to the pack, Trasler is confident they can string together back-to-back wins.

“Josh and Rhys have only played three games together and I want Josh to run the show with Rhys getting ball to our outside backs,” he said.

“Oakdale are a go-forward team so we will have to stop their pack laying a platform.”

Trasler is determined to make Community a fortress this season but the Dragons’ gritty defence will only win them games if they can capitalise on opportunities at the other end.

“It is the last passes that are letting us down and we have to improve our ball control,” he said.

Bowral are in desperate need of a win against the Dogs and coach Mick Galvin said the team will be close to full strength as they attempt to lift themselves out of the cellar. Ball control is the buzzword for the Bunnies, who have struggled to complete their sets.
