THE final round of Moss Vale Golf Club’s Todds Real Estate Bundanoon Wednesday Cup saw Dennis Lyons take home the overall winners’ trophy with 152 points.

The cup was played over six stableford rounds with the best four scores recorded.

Norman Dickson won the A-Grade with 145 points who jumped up the leaderboard with a final week score of 41 followed by Michael Abouchabake on 143 and Robert Mackintosh on 138.

David McGuinness, who after a number of very consistent rounds, topped the grade with 148 points to also be the overall runner-up, took out B-Grade.

Bruce Marshall finished second with 143 followed by cup sponsor Wayne Todd with 139 after a solid 43 points in the final round.

Lyons also took out the C-Grade title from Ken Stovold on 144 and Simon Zorgdrager on 140 points.

Saturday saw some hot weather and even hotter scoring with the top 10 of the club’s 144 strong field scoring 40 points or better.

Richard McHarg won A-Grade on a countback with 42 closely followed by John Seton (42) and Frank Beveridge (41).

B-Grade was won by Mark Knight, who found the weather and course to his liking in only his second round in three months, with an outstanding 43 points ahead of Carl Davey (42) and Charles Foreman (41).

Justin Allen was a first time C-Grade winner racking up 41 points to win over Harry Hedley (39) and Sydney Patterson (39).

Allen, who only carded one point through the first four holes, had 40 through the remaining 14 holes, including 27 on the back nine.

Dianne Beveridge took out the ladies event of the day with 35 points on a countback from Renee Smith with Edweena Jeffery close behind (33).

A team from Mount Annan won the 2009 Social Club Championships in a field of 106 players battling the heatwave conditions and strong winds.

The team of D Auld, M Williams, S Cooper and C Archer took out the championships with a combined stableford score of 137 points on a countback from the Kingsgrove team.

Club general manager Jason Harwood said the day went well.

“Thank you to Robert Marsh and his team in the pro shop and the assistance of the club’s directors to make the day a success,” he said.

“Well done to all the winners and we hope to see for an individual par event today and an individual stableford for the Services Trophy on Saturday.”
