THE rejuvenated Waratah ladies golf tournament was hosted by Moss Vale Golf Club earlier this week.
The tournament started a couple of years ago but it fizzled out after only one event.
The Moss Vale ladies took it upon themselves to breathe new life into the concept and, thanks to generous sponsorship, they had a course full of starters from Sunday to Tuesday.
Sunday was a day of foursomes while Monday and Tuesday were the competition’s main days.
Winter is traditionally a quiet time on the golfing calendar but the Moss Vale ladies committee hope they can keep the Waratah Tournament going forward.
Golfers came from across the southern NSW region, including players from Goulburn, Canberra, Cowra, St George’s Basin, Young and Shellharbour, but it was the locals who cleaned up the trophies.
Moss Vale’s Di Beveridge won the division one scratch competition with a 167, while Brenda Campbell took out the division two scratch with 205.
The nett winners were Moss Vale’s Trish Smith (153) in division one and Wendy Wilson (156) from Bayview won division two.
Moss Vale’s Margaret O’Farrell won the division three stableford.
Tournament sponsors included Moss Vale Volkswagon, Dormie House, Quality Labels and Oxley building.
