BOWRAL Hockey Club held their presentation night at Club Bowral recently, as the celebrations continued for the grand final winning women’s first grade team.
Club president Darren Roberts controlled proceedings and the club’s Australian representative Glenn Turner attended, while his dad, Glenn Turner senior, presented several awards.
Turner senior handed out the club’s most Improved male prize to Jack Clarson and most improved female to Margaret Halstead.
He also presented the club’s most outstanding player awards to Josh Millbank and Elanore Woods.
Dave Turner took out the men’s first grade best and fairest, aswell as the men’s club best and fairest. The ladies’ club best and fairest went to Jade Close.
The under-21 best male was Stevie McNaught and the women’s went to Kimberley Bunt.
Simone Bunt took home the Armstrong medal in first grade women’s and Jules Linolli for third grade men. This medal was selected by Elizabeth Armstrong on grand final day for the most outstanding player on the field during the grand final.
Linolli also one the Barry Howard Memorial trophy, presented also to a person who contributes immensely to the running of the club.
This year Linolli coached both the first and third grade Wallabies sides and played for the Wallabies.
He also filled in when asked for all the men’s sides and was even spotted playing on the field on at least one occasion.
Paul Bunt was surprised by the executive committees decision to issue him with a coach’s award.
The award is normally selected by Paul himself, but there was an executive decision to reward him for three years of hard work and dedication to the ladies’ first grade championships winners.
Paul still selected who he thought was the coach of year, and recipient of the Tom Bunt Memorial Trophy was Peter Frost.
Peter was coach of the under-9s Bandicoots side who won their Grand Final with just 10 players throughout the year.
Club Person of the year was shared by president Darren Roberts and committee member Tina Moore.
Roberts has been a long time member of the club, has coached for about seven years straight, did a great job of keeping the club’s men’s first grade side together and stepped up from second grade to play at the youthful age of 40.
He has also served two long and hard years as club president, putting an enormous amount of time and effort into his beloved Bowral Hockey Club.
He choked up when he recieved the award. It was a wonderful sight to see such a humble recipient with such raw emotion.
The other winner, Tina Moore, was given the award for many years of dedication to the club as a player, coach, committee member and head of the brand new merchandise shop.
Moore has given the club a great source of income and also improved the club’s look both on and off the feild.
The club would also like to thank their sponsors for a fantastic year: Club Bowral, McDonald’s Mittagong, McGrath estate agents, Southern Highlands Interior Linings, Pinczi Builders, Daley & Co Chartered Accountants, AJ Corby Constructions, Corney Constructions, Cotswold Furniture, Reekie’s Tyres Bowral, Createscape Landscaping and Bray and Associates.
The club also thanks Darren Roberts (club president), Paul Dawes (vice president) and Dot Furphy (treasurer) who are all stepping down from their roles next season.
