Highland Hawks Australian Football. In Wollongong.
If you wanted to catch junior sport in the Highlands last weekend, it was hockey or more hockey.
While most junior sports were forced to cancel the round following a deluge of rain late last week, the wet weather only whet the appetite of junior hockey stars.
In fact, a bit of water on the synthetic turf is ideal for fast-paced hockey.
In the under-9s, the Bowral Bandicoots scored a sensational four goals to beat the Mittagong Pumas 4-0 which included a late goal to Lucinda Knowles.
In a tight match, Burrawang beat cross-town rivals Robertson 1-0.
Robertson had only seven players, so Burrawang lent their neighbours two players for each half.
Burrawang had much of the possession and field position.
Robertson’s defence was wonderful and looked like hanging on to record a 0-0 draw.
But with four minutes left in the game, Burrawang striker Tahlia Hill broke the deadlock with a goal from inside the circle.
