Mittagong’s first grade women’s hockey team are racing away from their Highlands rivals after recording a fifth straight win, 4-1, over Robertson at Welby on Saturday.
The three-goal win followed on from their 5-1 hiding of the defending premiers in the opening round.
Robertson were in firm control at the break leading 1-0 but the lady Lions superior fitness saw them romp home with four unanswered goals. Jemma Delamont led the charge with a double, while Dea Goodem and Pippin Saunders also scored.
Lions coach Yolande Isedale said defence won them the match.
“I was really pleased with our defence in the first half to keep Robertson to one goal. Midfield players Natalie Thomson and Rhiann Power really stepped up against Robertson’s more experienced players,” she said.
“Jemma made some great choices in attack scoring two goals and contributing to another.”
Robertson coach Damian was perplexed that his team surrendered their 1-0 lead.
“I don’t know what happened, you tell me and we will both know. The first half was our best with Kylie Bisby scoring,” he said.
