BOWRAL have rejuvenated their hockey season with a new “relaxed” approach that saw them pump Burrawang 6-1 on Saturday.
Bowral coach Paul Bunt said the goal fest came as a result of the new approach.
“We tried a different approach and it was all about being less stressed out,” Bunt said.
“The girls have traditionally put too much pressure on themselves and they can be their own worst enemy in that way.”
Kristy Chambers and Jade Close scored two goals each while Kelly Corby and Stacy Turner also got their names on the scoresheet.
Bunt said striker Chambers was the player of the match.
The coach said Bowral would maintain its relaxed approach against Moss Vale this weekend.
Burrawang coach Trevor Donovan said his team was too defensive and played much of the match in their own half because they were not prepared to attack.
“The girls were certainly out-played and out-heckled as well,” he said.
“Bowral have a lot of yap and it affected us in the first half in particular.
“We played a lot better in the second half but we certainly need to stop defending and try some more attack.”
Burrawang face red-hot Mittagong this week and will be without a number of key players.
“We have two girls away at the snow, Kelly Roberts will be missing through injury again - but we’ll just do our best,” Donovan said.
Mossy do Houdini proud
MOSS Vale scored late against Robertson to win 3-2 in the women’s first grade Friday night fixture last week.
One week after Carla Temporali scored in the dying seconds to snatch a draw against Mittagong, the goal sneak was up to tricks again, scoring the match winner with two minutes left on the clock.
Robertson captain coach Jo Bisby said her team was utterly disappointed to lose late in the game.
“We played well and were leading 2-1 for most of the second half,” she said.
“But a couple of quick goals and that was it.”
Robertson conceded a late goal in the previous week’s game to be robbed of a win and Bisby said her team would have to start concentrating for the full 60 minutes.
Kylie Bisby, fresh from a weekend of pig shooting, scored Robertson’s two goals, while Temporali scored two for Moss Vale and Kate Lewis scored off a short corner.
Moss Vale coach Sandra Sharpe said her team was improving each week and was in good shape heading into next month’s semi-finals.
“We played really well, despite having a couple of players out,” Sharpe said.
“Our corners in particular were much better this week.”
