THREE Robertson players scored hat-tricks as their team beat Bowral 10-0 in round 17 of the Illawarra men’s hockey competition.
The win continues Robertson’s strong showing in recent times and they have now scored 22 goals and conceded only one in the past fortnight.
Robertson captain Damian Gair said his team was ready for the semi-finals and hopes they can maintain their electric form for the remaining four rounds before the playoffs.
“Bring on the finals while we’re running hot,” he said.
Gair, Ben Wright and Nathan Wright scored three apiece in the one-sided result, while Gus Schofield also got his name on the score sheet.
Nathan Wright’s goals come on top of the six he scored last week.
But Gair said his brother and fellow striker Ben Wright was the team’s best.
“Ben took out the players player points after the game,” he said.
“He missed a few weeks with work but should be right for the rest of the season now.”
The captain said goalkeeper Mick van Haeff also had his game of the season and did well to keep a clean sheet.
Bowral coach Jules Linolli said his team battled hard but couldn’t match Robertson for large parts of the game.
“The first 15 minutes and the last 15 minutes were our best parts of the game,” he said.
“We got a bit out of it [the loss].
“Robertson are a very good side and I would like to see them do well in the Illawarra semi-finals.”
Linolli said Bowral’s best were goalkeeper Owen Bunt and his brother Jye, and backs pairing David Turner and Cameron Marshall.
Bowral play their final home game of the season this week before travelling down the coast for the last three rounds.

Mittagong cause upset
DESPITE having already missed out on the Illawarra semi-finals, Mittagong have showed they are not willing to stand aside and let the stronger sides run all over them.
Lions striker Jordan O’Brien put his team in front midway through the first half and Mittagong defended its lead to end at 1-0.
Coach Glen Isedale said goalkeeper Tim Neven repelled attack after attack from the Wests strikers.
“I think for the last 20 minutes we were just hanging on,” Isedale said.
“I was very proud of them.”
O’Brien’s deflected a Graham Isedale short corner to score the game’s only goal.
Mittagong face league leaders University on Sunday, but Isedale is confident his team can score an upset.
“They only just beat us 3-2 last time so I think we are definitely a chance,” he said.
