MOSS Vale and Robertson’s first grade women fought out a physical and at times spiteful grand final replay at Welby on Saturday.
Moss Vale prevailed 4-2, in the battle of the Illawarra Highway, after leading 2-0 early in the second term. The four time defending champions would not go down without a fight and pegged it back to 3-2 with five minutes to go.
The 2007 runners-up pushed the play up Robertson’s end at the death and Hayley Tickner sealed the win in the last minute.
Goals to Karla Temporali and captain Lynda Stone put Moss Vale up 2-0 before Emma Bisby hit back for the black and golds. Katie Lewis made it 3-1 but again Robertson responded with a goal from Jamie Bow.
Moss Vale coach Bluey Veivers said it was a good win.
“There was a bit of feeling out there but our girls wanted to play this week,” Veivers said.
“Everybody did well and we had the right attitude. We were switched on and Lauren Byefield played her best game of the year.”
Robertson coach Damian Gair said his girls were a different team from the one that almost pipped league leaders Mittagong last week.
