TIDDLYWINK broke her maiden status in the first race of the day on Wednesday, winning the Southern Highlands Wines Maiden Handicap in a photo finish.
It was also Mittagong owner/trainer Shane Evans and Natalie Terry’s first win at the Bong Bong races.
The pair have built and operated the Kings Park Stud at Mittagong for almost four years and Evans said it was a great feeling to get their first win at Bong Bong.
“It’s very exciting after we picked up a second and a third last year but couldn’t crack a win,” he said.
“She’s a handy horse and should go better for that run.”
But Tiddlywink didn’t have it all her own way.
The top weight Beaubridge from Sutton stormed home out wide and looked likely to take the race.
But Tiddlywink kicked back and found the line narrowly.
“She had to fight for it, that’s for sure,” Evans said.
Evans praised the work of jockey Alan Barton, who continued his perfect record for the Evans/Terry stable.
Barton took Tiddlywink to the front, where she stayed until the finish post.
“The shortest way around the track is stick tight to the rails and that’s what he did,” Evans said.
