ROBERTSON’S judo fighters dominated the state titles in Wollongong last weekend, with the 25-person team collecting an astounding 11 gold medals, 11 silvers and 14 bronzes.
The team was made up of fighters aged from five to 42, that ranged from first timers to beginners and the mixed bag responded with a huge medal haul.
Five of the team, Dan McGee, Dylan Plumridge, Melissa Budriato, Rebecca Mauger and Jesse Mauger, gained selection in the NSW team bases on their performances at the state championships.
President of the NSW Kodokan Judo Association and Terry Riches said Meg Thirwell, Budriato and Vaughn Edmunds were the pick of Robertson’s fighters at the state titles.
“Meg Thirwell, who after her own division finished stepped up a division to take on the big girls and did really well,” he said.
“Melissa Budriato did the exact same thing [step up a division] while Edmunds went in every division he could and fought some really tough fighters.”
Riches said the Robertson club was going from strength to strength and he was looking to open another dojo in the Highlands next year.
