Dragons breathe fire, Lions lick wounds

29/08/2008 12:35:00 PM
IN a stark contrast from the first week of junior Group 6 finals Moss Vale tasted success, while Mittagong floundered in the major semi-finals at Picton last Saturday.

Two of the Dragons teams advanced to the September 6 grand finals at Thirlmere, while the third play in the preliminary finals at The Oaks tomorrow. All three Mittagong major semi-finalists lost. Six Lions and a Dragon team have one last shot at a berth in the big one tomorrow.

Moss Vale’s under-13Bs thrashed Mount Annan 28-0 in their major semi-final.

The Dragons were dominant in defence and never gave the Knights a chance. Moss Vale’s forwards were outstanding and set up their backs outwide with some great hit-ups. Hayden St Clair, Isiaih Martin, Ryan Roche and James Foyer were the fiercest Dragons.

The under-15As Dragons had a close shave 8-6 win over the Camden Rams after trailing 6-0 until late in the game. Moss Vale halfback Mathew Thorpe kicked a 40-20 which set up Sam Carlon to score outwide and close the gap to 6-4. Luke Chapman barged over from dummy half in the dying stages for the match winner.
