High hopes for Highlands

24/08/2008 2:19:00 PM
THREE Mittagong and three Moss Vale junior teams battle for a grand final berth in tomorrow’s Group 6 major semi-finals at Picton.

In last Saturday’s minor semi-finals three Lions advanced to the August 30 preliminary finals, while Dragons teams the under-10As (16-0 to Picton in a play-off) and the under-11Bs (30-0 to Thirlmere) and Mittagong’s under-10Bs (40-4 to Camden) lost.

Mittagong’s under-13B Golds fought back from a 14-8 deficit five minutes from time to beat Picton after Robbie Evans and then Hayden Wallace scored, from an intercept, in the dying stages to win 20-14.

Warragamba started strongly against the under-15A Lions scoring two quick tries but Mittagong levelled the score by halftime. The second half was a different story with the Lions proving they are back-to-back title contenders with a 30-16 win.

The under-16A Lions backed up their fourth spot play-off win last week with a roaring win 44-10 win over Mount Annan. Mittagong’s forwards led the way backed up by some greatball movement and accurate positional kicking.
