A POOR second half cost Bundanoon a golden chance of posting their first win of the year against Shamrocks at Bundanoon Oval on Saturday.
Atrocious conditions greeted the two teams, with steady rain falling for much of the match, adding to the already cold day.
Only the bravest fans ventured to the sideline, the rest chose to watch the Highlanders from the comfort of their cars.
The first half failed to reach any great heights and left those on the sideline wishing they had also stayed in their cars.
Bundanoon went to the break 10-5 ahead thanks to a clever chip-and-chase from Nathan Ring.
The try was converted along with a penalty right on halftime.
Bundanoon went to sleep after the break and allowed Shamrocks to take the ascendency with two quick tries.
Once again Bundanoon were beaten at the breakdown, and what little possession they had was kicked away.
Down on the sideline Shamrocks were heard to say on numerous occasions “they don’t want it”, and this really seemed to be the case.
The same match last year was the highlight of the Highlanders season with a fighting effort and a brave win.
Unfortunately, this season those fighting characteristics have deserted Bundanoon.
The Shamrocks ran away with the match, out-scoring Bundanoon four tries to one to win 22-10.
Bundanoon’s best was fullback Ryan Elphick who was kept busy at the back chasing numerous kicks in the slippery conditions.
