Bundy beaten, junior season over

24/08/2008 2:21:00 PM
THE third grade Bundanoon Highlanders had their second game called-off in as many weeks due to the referee not showing up.

The Vikings walked away with the points in Saturday’s fixture but Bundanoon officials claim the referee forgot to read the email sent to him with the game details.

On Sunday, in a make-up game from last week, Bundanoon were trounced 35-5 by fourth-placed Engadine-Heathcote, and they remain in eighth spot despite losing their 12th game.

Engadine scored two tries early in the first half but Bundanoon’s Ryan Wilson hit back soon afterwards before Engadine scored their third try to lead 17-5 at the break.

Engadine scored three unanswered second term tries to win easily. Wilson, Pete Ingmire and Nathan Ring shared Bundanoon’s player’s players award.

o In ISA rugby, Oxley finished off their division two season with a 12-0 win over Blue Mountains while Chevalier completed their winless year with a 50-0 drubbing at the hands of St Augustines on Saturday.

Oxley missed out on the title by two points after losing twice to eventual winners Redfields and Central Coast. Coach Nick Wansey said it was the best Oxley team he had coached and only 2008 player’s player Steve McNaught will be in the team for 2009. Andrew Lane was the best and fairest and Ben Macintyre, James Minter and Toby Ellis won the coach’s award.

“I want to thank Andrew Lawson, Laurie Gordon, Ian Lane and all the parents for their help this season,” Wansey said.
