THIS reporter discovered just what a difficult and thankless task coaching can be during Saturday’s 54-0 loss against Engadine.
Work commitments prevented the Highlanders coaching staff from attending the match and I was tossed the fluoro vest.
In a further twist, kick-off time rolled around and there was still no referee.
A few rushed phone calls later and a stand-in referee was found and the game got underway about 15 minutes later.
Bundanoon started the match well and kept to the game plan in the opening stages. The game plan involved kicking out of the red zone and running the ball in Bundy’s own half.
Disaster struck when Steve (Rambo) Doyle once again put his body on the line and come off second best in a tackle.
He was rushed off to hospital with a dislocated elbow.
The tackle signalled a change in direction for the match and further injuries to Richie Martin (suspected broken nose) and Lee Thomas (ribs) topped of a disastrous day for the Highlanders.
Maybe the team was suffering dehydration being the first town to do away with bottled water. That’s my excuse and I am sticking to it.
In the end Bundy was belted 54-0.
