LAST week the Bowral Blacks beat Shamrocks second grade.
This week they will do their best to down an Invitational XI set to include former Wallabies Bill Young, Jeremy Paul, Rod Moore and Damien Smith and a host of former super rugby players.
Bowral’s scrum held up well against the Shamrocks last Saturday, but it will be a totally different experience on Sunday as the likes of Bowral’s prop Chris Newman eyeballs world-cup winners Young, Paul and Moore.
It’ll be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the young Blacks team.
Bowral president Tony Fountain said he hoped there would be up to 500 spectators at Eridge Park on Sunday.
“The space next to the football field will be full of corporate marquees and the clubhouse will be in full swing with the bar, café and canteen all open and there will be a jumping castle for the children from about 11am on,” he said.
The first match of the day will be 12noon and is the Bowral under-18s vs Camden Rams, which is a proper Illawarra District Rugby Union game. It will be followed by the Bowral Blacks “Wilted Tulips” vs Balmain Rugby.
Then first grade will start at 3pm.
Entry is a gold coin and all proceeds raised will go towards the Bowral rugby club.
