Bushrangers surrender

16/07/2008 10:52:00 AM
YERRINBOOL-BARGO's first grade women surrendered top spot to Robertson, on goal difference, after they were thrashed 6-2 by Bundanoon and Robertson drew with Hill Top 2-2 on Saturday.

The defending title holders led from start to finish and established a commanding 4-1 halftime lead on the back of three Kayleigh Davis strikes and a Leanne Rutledge goal.

Davis continued the onslaught in the second term to finish with five for the match, while Chantal Page and Rebecca Chester scored for the Bushrangers.

Out of all the grand final replays in 2008 this was the first victory for the Rebelettes .

The Yerrinbool girls were easy prey for Bundanoon after returning from a gruelling week of competition at the Kanga Cup on Friday.

Despite the circumstances, Yerrinbool coach Dan Brierley was taking nothing away from Bundanoon's decisive win.

"We were dead on our feet but they are a good side. Kayleigh Davis is an excellent soccer player," he said.

"Our best players were Rhiannon Khoury and Claire Plunkett."

Bundanoon coach Shane Robson said an improved attitude at training had bore fruit on Saturday.
