Robertson share top spot after upset win

28/07/2008 6:07:00 PM
A MATT Fernandez double has propelled Robertson to joint top of the competition with Yerrinbool after recording a surprising 2-1 victory at Government Road on Saturday.

It was a heavyweight contest with Yerrinbool who had the best defence in the competition up against the best attacking side in Robertson.

It had all the indications of a classic encounter and that proved to be the case.

Yerrinbool skipper Rob Miller was disappointed with the outcome but acknowledged Robertson took their chances well.

“They basically had two chances to score in the game which they took,” he said.

“In the first half we played a little below par, but the second half we hit the post twice and possibly could have scored more.”

Despite having four players unavailable, Yerrinbool began to control the match as the first-half wore on and were unlucky not to take the lead after a great shot on the turn by Chris Evans which struck the side netting.
