HIGHLANDS United’s chances of securing a finals berth suffered a major blow on Saturday following their 2-1 loss to cellar dwellers Bellambi at Renwick Park.
Despite United’s eighth loss they still sit in third spot in the Peoplecare District League. Having to face the top two sides Uni and Woonona before finishing the season with a bye means the first graders could miss only their second finals series in nine years.
The reserves are heading into the finals full of form after their 7-2 drubbing of Bellambi, while the youth graders are in a similar predicament to the firsts after they lost 3-2.
First grade coach Brain Hollywood said his team was simply “out enthused” on Saturday and the gap between their “best and worst was too great. It was one of our poorest performances of the year and I can’t put my finger on it,” he said.
