WHAT a terrific idea from Interiors For You owner Lesley Turner to turn cold, grey, cement-lined Bowral streets into vibrant, colourful, organic streetscapes (see story on page 1).
And who better to lead the charge to make Highlands town centres aesthetically pleasing for shoppers and visitors than can-do Bowral business chief Tony Springett.
While the idea is definitely not new - heck, even Liverpool has managed turn their often-maligned CBD into an attractive flower-lined destination - surely it’s about time shopowners offer visitors and locals alike a pretty and fragrant experience whenever they make the journey into a Highlands township.
The flower power initiative should also have the full support of Council - after all, Highlands business is their business too.
Liverpool Council was behind the beautifying plan to jazz up their city, and surely Wingecarribee can do even better with the willingness of locals to get behind the idea.
But why stop at flowers? The Moss Vale business chamber has asked for suggestions to make their town centre more appealing, and it will be interesting to see what comes out of that brainstorming session.
Why not drop us a line with your ideas for beautifying the Southern Highlands.
The News receives plenty of criticisms from letter-writers and phone-callers about the drabness of Wingecarribee townships, so why not be part of the plan to change this outlook and help freshen up the place a bit.
