IF you like your action frenetic, but prefer to watch it than play it, then get out to Bong Bong Racecourse this weekend for the International Polocrosse challenge.
As the Highlands continues to draw the best in music, arts and culture, it’s time again for the creme de la creme of sport to venture to the Wingecarribee following on from last month’s successful Women’s World Cup cricket matches held at Bradman Oval.
The Shire is blessed with a range of nationally, and even internationally recognised events, so it comes as little surprise that the oldest existing polocrosse club in the world, Burradoo, would be chosen as the host for such a prestigious tournament.
The event pits the best polocrosse players from Australia, South Africa, New Zealand and the United Kingdom in a quadrangle series to identify the world’s best nation.
And with autumn upon us, the picturesque Highlands is the perfect setting for a global showcase.
The competition starts on Thursday morning - with international games on every day at 11am and 2pm - and continues to Sunday’s final.
Tickets are cheap (kids under 12 free), and there will be plenty to see and do on the sidelines with a vintage car display, carriage driving, horse vaulting and a harvest marquis featuring plenty of local produce and wares.
It really is set up to be a fun, family event.
And if past events are anything to go by, it will be popular. After all, it’s not every day you have an international fixture in your own backyard.
