Pollies more than equal on the farm

HOW do like this system? Two unique teams choose their own leader, free from any public input and not based on anything more than who has done the best (as in “most effective”) back room deals to garnish majority support.

The leaders then go toe-to-toe and offer everyone over a certain age the opportunity to pick one of them to head what is supposedly a team “of the people, by the people, for the people”.

Inadvertently, it’s only one more choice than people living in a communist country get but, hey, that’s democracy for you!

After the people have chosen their supreme leader, that person then handpicks underlings from his own team to head different departments.

They don’t need any qualifications or expertise in that field, they just need to know how to look like they know what they’re doing. And if they don’t look the part then they need to know how to pass the buck effectively and cover up any failings.

Both the winning and losing teams then get to decide how much they will be paid for filling those positions. Again, not based on any experience or effectiveness, nor on any degrees of competency; simply how much they want to be paid.

Then they get allowances, you know, for all the essentials like traveling, accommodation, medical expenses, counselling, personal items, stationery, office decor, food, and so on.

When times are tough, they will deny workers pay rises, but agree to give themselves one, plus a lifetime pension for working five years or more.

You have to admire a person’s perceived “right” to reward themselves with someone else’s money.

Guess who represents politicians down at Orwell’s Animal Farm. Oink oink!
